ABOUT ME

I've been working in the field of disability and sexuality for several years.

From 2007 I worked as an educated social worker/socialpedagog in an institution for physically and mentally disabled people. During this time I got an education as sexuality advisor for people with disabilities (Seksualvejleder). Read more about this education on www.seksualvejlederuddannelsen.dk

From 2010-2013 I worked at the Danish Association of Youth With Disabilities (DAYWD) on the project "Sexuality policies on schools for children with special needs". The aim of this project was to help special needs schools to form policies for sexuality. The students with disabilities will of course also experience puberty and their sexuality will flourish as well as all other teenagers. But with a disability it can be difficult to manage all these new sensations and emotions, which requires help from their surroundings. With a policy for sexuality, the staff at special needs schools will know exactly what their responsibility is and what is not, regarding the children's sexuality.

From 2013-2015 I'll continue working in DAYWD. This time on the project, "LigeLyst" (equal desires). The aim of the project is to provide sexual education and counselling to more than 650 young people with disabilities. Along with the project, there is a campaign with beautiful pictures of young people with different kinds of disabilities. Hopefully this campaign will help break down taboos regarding disabilities and sexuality. See more about LigeLyst here.

In 2015-2017 I worked on projects concerning youth with multiple and severe disabilities and sexuality. Some of these people have very severe disabilities and may not be able to communicate at all. They are in constant need of care and supervision by professionals. These people will of course also undergo puberty and will experience sexuality, but how can professionals assist them in experiencing their sexuality, if they are not even able to communicate in a way that is understandable to the staff? In the latest project in DAYWD I tackled these challenges and the results can be found here (only in Danish)

In 2019-2020 I worked on a project aiming to develop a sexuality-education app for youth with mental disabilities.

Since 2018 I've been manager of the Danish education for sexuality advisors (Seksualvejlederuddannelsen)

I was president of the board of the Danish Association for Sexuality Advisors from 2016-2018. See more here
